CAS Explores Strategic Training Partnership in Latvia to Boost NAF Pilot Development
In a strategic move to enhance the operational capacity of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, visited the Baltic Bees Training Facility in Riga, Latvia, on 26 February 2026. The visit was aimed at assessing the facility’s capability to deliver standardised jet flying training on the L-39 aircraft for prospective NAF pilots.
The engagement highlights the NAF’s commitment to improving the quality and standardisation of its pilot training programmes, aligning them with global best practices in military aviation. It also represents a proactive step in preparing Nigerian pilots for the anticipated induction of new aircraft platforms into the Service’s inventory.

During the visit, Air Marshal Aneke explored potential collaboration with the Baltic Bees Training organisation to support mission-focused pilot training and enhance the technical proficiency of NAF aviators. The partnership is expected to contribute to the long-term goal of developing advanced jet training capabilities within Nigeria, consolidating institutional expertise, and improving operational effectiveness as the Air Force continues to modernise its fleet and expand its mission readiness.
