Police Boost Counter-Terrorism Operations, Establish New CTU Bases Nationwide
The Nigeria Police Force has expanded its counter-terrorism operations with the approval of new Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) bases and additional deployments across the country, as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s response to emerging security threats.
The development follows a specialised training programme aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of personnel of the CTU.
The two-week training programme, conducted in collaboration with the British High Commission in Nigeria through the Office of the Counter Terrorism Regional Coordinator for West Africa, focused on Close Quarter Battle techniques and Intelligence Analysis.
A total of 56 officers drawn from CTU formations across the country participated in the programme, where they were exposed to contemporary counter-terrorism tactics, intelligence analysis skills, and operational best practices designed to strengthen coordinated responses to terrorism, banditry, and other serious crimes.
Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Peacekeeping Conference Hall at Force Headquarters in Abuja, Lieutenant Colonel Ian Tyler of the Office of the Counter Terrorism Regional Coordinator for West Africa commended the dedication and professionalism of the participants.
