Police Service Commission Promotes 7 AIGs to DIGs, Urges Commitment to Professionalism
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), in a move aimed at strengthening the leadership cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.
The promotions, announced on 6th March 2026 at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, were based on merit, seniority, performance in a written examination, and oral interviews conducted by the Commission. The newly elevated DIGs are:
1. Zachariah Fera Achinyan
2. Zango Ibrahim Baba
3. Isyaku Mohammed
4. Margaret Agebe Ochalla
5. Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman
6. Kenechukwu Onwuemelie
7. Umar Shehu Nadada

These appointments follow the recent elevation of Fayoade Adegoke to the substantive rank of DIG, who now joins the Force Management Team. The promotions were also necessary to fill vacancies created by the retirement of eight DIGs who previously held these strategic offices.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Chairman of the PSC, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, charged them to uphold professionalism, prioritize national security, and maintain a cordial and productive working relationship with the Commission to ensure the continued development of the Nigeria Police Force.
The examinations and interviews were conducted with the participation of notable PSC Board Members, including Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, Dr. Taiwo Lakanu, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
According to Torty Njoku Kalu, the latest promotions reflect the Commission’s commitment to meritocracy, operational excellence, and the strengthening of the Nigeria Police Force’s leadership to meet evolving security challenges.
