NSCDC Arrests 16 Over Kidnapping, Illegal Mining, Arms Deals
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 16 suspects linked to a network of alleged criminal activities including kidnapping, illegal arms dealings, unauthorised mining, and counterfeit currency operations in coordinated security operations across Kano and Edo states.
The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG-SIS) during intelligence-led operations conducted in collaboration with the NSCDC Kano State Command and security personnel attached to BUA Cement Company in Okpella, Edo State.
According to the NSCDC, the operations targeted individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping-related activities, unlawful possession of firearms, criminal trespass and illegal mining within restricted areas.
Preliminary investigations indicated that some of the suspects were allegedly involved in the movement and distribution of illegal firearms, while others were apprehended in connection with unauthorised mining activities around the Okpella axis of Edo State.

During the operation, NSCDC operatives recovered several items believed to be linked to the criminal network. The items include locally fabricated rifles, suspected charms, mining equipment and materials suspected to be used in the production of counterfeit foreign currency.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage and vigilance in carrying out the successful operation.
He noted that the breakthrough demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-driven security operations in dismantling criminal syndicates that threaten national security and economic stability.
Audi emphasised that the Corps would continue to intensify intelligence gathering and operational activities aimed at combating organised crime and safeguarding critical national assets.
He also directed that investigations be expanded to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network who may still be at large, assuring that all suspects found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while strengthening its collaboration with other security stakeholders to enhance the country’s internal security architecture.
