Military Debunks Claims of Terrorist Enclave in Borno Community
The military under Operation Hadin Kai has dismissed reports alleging that Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents have established a new enclave in Tuba, Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, describing the claims as false and misleading.
Military sources said troops of the 212 Battalion recently conducted clearance and reconnaissance operations across Tuba and neighbouring communities, including Dusuman, Jabarmari, Gongulong and Ngom, as well as along the Maiduguri–Monguno and Maiduguri–Mafa highways. The operations, according to the sources, found no evidence of any terrorist enclave, concentration or movement as suggested in the reports.
The sources expressed concern over the circulation of unverified security reports, warning that such narratives could create unnecessary panic and undermine ongoing counterinsurgency efforts.
“These claims are false, sensational and do not reflect the reality on the ground,” the sources said, stressing that troops maintain operational presence and control across the affected areas.

They also cited past instances of exaggerated reporting, including claims that dozens of soldiers were killed in attacks in Konduga—figures that were neither officially confirmed nor corroborated by insurgent sources.
Similarly, reports that Boko Haram had taken over Ngoshe were later disproved when video footage surfaced showing troops maintaining firm control of the town. Despite this, some media platforms reportedly went ahead to publish stories suggesting the army had “recaptured” the community without providing details of any such operation.
The military sources questioned the motives behind the dissemination of such unverified information, noting that it could inadvertently amplify terrorist propaganda.
While acknowledging the challenges associated with counterinsurgency operations, the sources emphasized that troops continue to sustain operational dominance, protect communities and secure major highways across the North-East.
They urged journalists and media organisations to adhere to professional standards by verifying information before publication, while advising residents to rely on credible sources and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to defeating terrorism and maintaining peace and stability in Borno State and the wider North-East region.
