After Bomb Attacks, Tinubu Orders Service Chiefs to Maiduguri
President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to take charge of the security situation following deadly bomb attacks that killed over 20 people and injured more than 100 others.
The directive comes in the aftermath of coordinated explosions carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Monday evening across multiple locations in the city.
The attacks, which occurred around 7:25 p.m., targeted crowded areas during the Iftar period, triggering panic and mass casualties in what security sources described as a coordinated assault on civilian populations.
Reacting to the incident shortly before departing for an official visit to the United Kingdom, Tinubu condemned the attacks, describing them as desperate attempts by terrorist elements under sustained pressure from Nigerian forces.
“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” the President said.

He insisted that the attacks would not weaken Nigeria’s resolve in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.
“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies,” he added.
The President commended troops for repelling related attacks on military formations, noting that the resilience of security forces remained critical to degrading insurgent capabilities.
As part of immediate measures, Tinubu said he had ordered the Service Chiefs to move to Maiduguri to coordinate operations on ground, while also directing emergency response agencies to ensure prompt medical care for victims.
He revealed that additional military equipment and operational support had already been approved following a recent high-level security meeting, with implementation underway.
Reaffirming his administration’s stance, the President vowed that terrorist groups would find no safe haven anywhere in the country.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” he said.
