Boat Mishap: Navy Saves 7 in Bayelsa Waterways
The Nigerian Navy
has rescued seven persons following a boat collision in the Ogboinbiri waterways, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The incident, which involved a Tantita patrol boat and a wooden market boat, triggered a swift search and rescue operation after a distress call was received. Naval personnel attached to Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH were immediately deployed to the scene.
Acting promptly, the rescue team successfully evacuated the victims and transported them to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Efforts, however, are ongoing to locate other missing persons.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Navy said the operation underscores its commitment to safeguarding lives within Nigeria’s maritime domain, in line with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.
The Service noted that the latest rescue adds to its growing record of rapid response operations across the country’s waterways.
It recalled recent interventions, including the rescue of passengers during a sea robbery incident in the Ibaka–Calabar Channel earlier in March, as well as previous operations involving distressed vessels and kidnapped victims in Calabar waters.
The Navy reaffirmed its readiness to continue deploying assets and personnel for timely response to maritime emergencies, assuring the public of sustained efforts to ensure safety and security along Nigeria’s waterways.
