Naval Troops Seize 44,000 Litres of Illegal Fuel, Arrests 8 in Rivers
The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 44,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and arrested eight suspects during an anti-crude oil theft operation in Rivers State.
The operation, conducted under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, took place across the Degema, Ogbogoro, and Ogbologo general areas, following credible intelligence on ongoing illegal bunkering activities in the region.

Naval personnel attached to Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER, deployed on an anti-crude oil theft patrol, intercepted two wooden boats laden with the illicit petroleum products. According to naval authorities, the suspects were apprehended at the scene, while other armed accomplices fled upon sighting the patrol team.
The Navy said the arrested individuals and recovered products are currently in custody and will be handed over to appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The development marks another operational success in the Navy’s sustained crackdown on oil theft and maritime crimes in the Niger Delta.
The Service reiterated that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, who has tasked commanders to intensify efforts against crude oil theft, illegal bunkering, and other economic sabotage activities across Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The Navy further assured that it will sustain the operational tempo through intelligence-driven missions, enhanced patrols, and inter-agency collaboration to protect critical national assets and safeguard the country’s economic interests.
