Military Arrest 9 Suspected Terrorists, Kill One in Coordinated Operations Across Benue
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have recorded significant operational successes across Benue State, arresting nine suspects, neutralizing one alleged terrorist, and recovering arms, ammunition, and stolen property during coordinated fighting patrols.
In Otukpo Local Government Area, troops of Sector 1 deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Otukpo conducted a targeted patrol on March 23, 2026, against a suspected criminal enclave at Amla Icho. The operation led to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of six locally fabricated firearms, 16 empty cartridges, one motorcycle, three machetes, and six mobile phones.

On the same day, troops operating from FOB Bilawa-Jor carried out a similar operation in the Mbapa and Mbabuande general areas of Gwer West Local Government Area. During the patrol, troops engaged suspected terrorists, neutralizing one while others fled the scene. A follow-up pursuit resulted in the arrest of four additional suspects, who are currently in custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.
In a related development, troops responding to actionable intelligence on cattle rustling activities in Uhemba at about 3:48 a.m. on March 24 recovered a vehicle loaded with two cows abandoned by fleeing suspects. The items have since been secured for further investigation and legal processes.
All arrested suspects and recovered exhibits are in military custody.
The operations form part of ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle criminal networks and curb insurgent activities in the state. The military has also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support security operations.
