Troops Intercept 1,500 Liters of AGO, Seize Illegal Oil Bunkering Equipment in Rivers
Troops in Rivers State have intensified operations against illegal oil activities, seizing significant quantities of refined fuel and uncovering oil bunkering equipment in separate but coordinated actions.

In the first incident, troops of the 146 Battalion (Mechanized) intercepted a vehicle carrying 58 sacks of illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO) at Bonny Island. According to security sources, the vehicle, en route from Bonny Island to Port Harcourt, was stopped at around 3:10 p.m. along the Bonny–Bodo road near the workers’ camp. The operation resulted in the seizure of an estimated 1,500 litres of illegally refined AGO and the arrest of three suspects, who are now in military custody pending further investigation.
In a separate operation, troops of 5 Battalion and 16 Brigade Garrison uncovered illegal oil bunkering equipment in Okarki Forest, Ahoada West Local Government Area. Sources reported that at approximately 1:00 p.m., troops discovered a small drum oven, a receiver, a coolant, a 20-metre galvanized pipe, three sacks of suspected illegally refined AGO amounting to about 125 litres, and a small waste pit. The items were secured according to operational protocols, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The military confirmed that both operations form part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal oil activities, disrupt criminal networks, and safeguard lives and property in Rivers State.
