Troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified offensive operations against terrorist enclaves across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, recording a series of tactical successes aimed at safeguarding communities and dismantling criminal networks.
The coordinated operations, carried out within the week, led to the neutralisation of several terrorists and the recovery of arms, ammunition, and communication equipment in multiple engagements across the North-West.
In Sokoto State, troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate encounters on March 25, 2026, at Magonho Forest. During the operations, three bandits were neutralised, while troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.
Similarly, in Zamfara State, troops executed a successful ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village road on the same day, killing two terrorists and forcing others to flee. In a separate operation, troops acting on credible intelligence conducted a clearance mission in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area. The sustained pressure forced fleeing terrorists to abandon one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, troops responding to intelligence reports on the presence of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, encountered an ambush approximately 500 metres from the village. Ongoing intelligence-led operations are focused on tracking and neutralising the fleeing terrorists.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to dominating the operational environment, degrading terrorist capabilities, and ensuring the protection of law-abiding citizens across the region. It also noted that troop morale remains high, underscoring their dedication, professionalism, and adherence to the directives of the Chief of Army Staff.
The operations form part of sustained efforts by the Nigerian Army to restore peace and stability in the North-West.
