Troops Arrest Three, Recover AK-47 in Benue
Troops of the Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested three suspected criminals and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an intelligence-led operation in Benue State.
The operation, conducted on March 26, 2026, was part of ongoing pre-wet season offensives aimed at clearing identified flashpoints and enhancing security ahead of the farming season.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion XI advanced on the Agasha general area following credible intelligence on the presence of suspected terrorists.
He said the troops tactically moved to the location and swiftly cordoned off the area on arrival, leading to the arrest of three suspects identified as Sule Ibrahim and Salmanu Risko, both from Nasarawa State, as well as Abdulkareem Haruna from Jos.

Items recovered during the operation include one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 27 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Other items include a mobile phone, a cutlass, sachets of alcohol, and assorted charms.
The suspects are currently in military custody and are undergoing preliminary investigation before being handed over for prosecution.
The statement noted that troops have continued to maintain an aggressive operational posture across the area, dominating the environment to deny criminal elements freedom of action.
The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience, noting that such operations are critical to safeguarding lives and property within the joint operations area.
He reiterated the commitment of the military to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring a secure environment for residents, particularly as the farming season approaches.
