Troops Eliminate Several Terrorists in Benue, Recover Over 300 Rustled Livestock in Kano, Katsina
Nigerian troops have recorded significant operational successes in separate security operations in Benue and Kano states, neutralizing several terrorists and recovering more than 300 rustled livestock.
In Benue State, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) repelled an attack by suspected terrorists in Kwande Local Government Area, killing several of the assailants during a fierce gun battle.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on March 27 near the Iyarwya waterside, where troops of Sector 1 acted on intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists.
The troops engaged the attackers in a firefight, successfully neutralizing several of them and initially forcing others to retreat. However, while pursuing the fleeing suspects across a river, the troops were ambushed.
During the encounter, one soldier was killed in action, while another sustained gunshot injuries. The wounded soldier has been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre in Makurdi for treatment, while the remains of the fallen soldier were deposited at a mortuary.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA recovered over 300 rustled livestock following a clash between rival bandit factions operating along the Katsina–Kano axis.
The recovery followed intelligence indicating that a faction linked to a bandit leader identified as Muhammadu Filatan was moving towards Kano State after a confrontation with a rival group associated with a notorious bandit leader in Zamfara State.
Troops of the 3 Brigade, deployed at Forward Operating Bases in Tsaure, Yanchibi, Yankwada, and Lakwaya, launched coordinated fighting patrols along the riverine boundary between Katsina and Kano states to intercept the group.
At about 4:00 p.m., troops at Forward Operating Base Tsaure made contact with the armed bandits at the Gulbi–Goron Dutse axis in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, where the suspects were moving with a large number of rustled animals.
Following a firefight, the bandits abandoned the livestock and fled towards Gidan Gora village in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Troops subsequently recovered 120 cows, 200 sheep, 39 goats, and three donkeys. The animals have since been handed over to local authorities in Shanono for further action.
Military sources noted that the operations underscore ongoing efforts by security forces to combat terrorism, banditry, and related criminal activities across the country.
