Military Eliminates Notorious Bandit in Katsina, Rescue Hostages in Zamfara Operations
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded significant operational successes in Katsina and Zamfara States, neutralising a notorious bandit, arresting a suspected informant, and rescuing kidnapped victims following coordinated responses to separate attacks.
Security sources said the operations were carried out on March 29 in response to bandit activities across the North-West region.
In Katsina State, troops of 17 Brigade, deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Dansabau, responded to reports of bandit movement on the eastern flank of Dansabau village in Kankara Local Government Area at about 5:40 p.m.
The troops engaged the assailants in a firefight, neutralising one of them identified by local sources as Abbas Nabula, a suspected notorious bandit linked to a recent ambush along the Zango–Dansabau road.
The suspect was reportedly known within the community as part of a group responsible for previous attacks on troops in the area.

During the operation, troops also arrested a suspected informant believed to be aiding the bandits. Items recovered at the scene included grains of millet, suspected to be part of the group’s logistics supplies.
In a related development in Zamfara State, troops repelled a bandit attack on commuters along the Maru–Mayanchi–Gusau road in Maru Local Government Area at about 6:40 p.m. the same day.
The attackers had ambushed two vehicles, killing one civilian and abducting 14 passengers before troops deployed at Forward Operating Bases in Mayanchi and Fangaltama swiftly responded to a distress call.
Troops pursued the fleeing bandits along their withdrawal route and successfully rescued five of the abducted victims.
Those rescued include Mrs. Dami Nehemiah, wife of a serving military officer, her son, and three other passengers who sustained gunshot wounds during the attack. The injured victims were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Military sources said troops have sustained aggressive patrols across the affected areas to maintain dominance, prevent further attacks, and ensure the safety of residents and commuters.
