
Defence Ministers Storm North-East Theatre, Hail Troops’ Resilience
The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Retd) alongside the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle
, on Tuesday stormed the North-East theatre of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, Borno State, commending troops for their resilience and renewed offensive against insurgents.
The high-powered visit, aimed at assessing ongoing military operations and boosting troop morale, comes amid sustained efforts by the Armed Forces to consolidate gains in the counter-insurgency war.
At the Theatre Command Headquarters, the ministers received a detailed operational briefing from the Theatre Commander, who revealed that troops had neutralised over 280 terrorists within the Ramadan period, disrupted their logistics networks, and rescued abducted civilians across several operations.
The ministers described the achievements as a testament to the improved coordination, professionalism, and fighting spirit of personnel on the frontlines. They stressed that the Federal Government remains committed to sustaining the current momentum through enhanced intelligence, strategic deployments, and continuous support for military operations in the region.

As part of their engagements, the ministers paid a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, where they acknowledged the support of traditional institutions and the resilience of communities affected by insurgency. They also met with Borno State officials, reaffirming the importance of collaboration between federal and state authorities in restoring lasting peace.
In a solemn moment, the ministers visited the military cemetery in Maiduguri, where they laid wreaths in honour of fallen soldiers who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation. They described the gesture as a symbol of the country’s enduring gratitude and commitment to the welfare of troops and their families.
The visit also featured the inspection and commissioning of critical infrastructure, including a newly constructed Command and Control Centre designed to enhance intelligence coordination and real-time decision-making in the theatre. Additionally, newly built accommodation for troops was inaugurated, as part of efforts to improve personnel welfare and boost operational efficiency.
Addressing officers and soldiers, the ministers conveyed the appreciation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their sacrifices and gallantry. They charged the troops to remain resolute, sustain the pressure on terrorist elements, and deny them freedom of action across the North-East.
