Kwara APC: Senator Oloriegbe Declares Intention to Contest Governorship in 2027
A former lawmaker and Chairman of the Governing Council of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Senator Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriẹgbẹ, has formally declared his intention to contest for the office of Governor of Kwara State in the 2027 general election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter addressed to party leaders, elders, and stakeholders across the state, the Ilorin-born politician said his decision followed “deep reflection, prayer, and wide consultation” with critical stakeholders within and outside Kwara State.
Oloriẹgbẹ expressed confidence that the state requires experienced and capable leadership to navigate its next phase of development, noting that his aspiration is driven by a desire to translate opportunities into tangible results for the people.
The APC chieftain highlighted his over four decades of professional experience spanning the private, public, and international sectors. He disclosed that he began his career in medical practice, rising to become Medical Director at Albarka Clinic before establishing his own healthcare facility, Oloriẹgbẹ Clinic, in Ilorin.

He also outlined his contributions to public service, including his tenure as Majority Leader in the Kwara State House of Assembly and later as a Senator representing Kwara Central. During his time in the National Assembly, he chaired key health committees and currently serves as Chairman of the NHIA Governing Council.
According to him, his legislative interventions contributed to major reforms in Nigeria’s health sector, including the National Health Insurance Authority Act of 2022, which expanded access to healthcare for millions of Nigerians, particularly vulnerable groups. He also cited his role in championing Nigeria’s Mental Health Act of 2021, which replaced outdated laws and improved protections for persons with mental health conditions.
The governorship aspirant further noted his involvement in facilitating the establishment of key federal health institutions in Kwara State, including the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Budo-Egba, as well as other federal agencies and facilities aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.
Oloriẹgbẹ said his vision for Kwara includes improved security, stronger institutions, quality education and healthcare, enhanced infrastructure, and expanded opportunities for youth and women.
“My aspiration is grounded not in personal ambition, but in a sincere desire to help lead Kwara State into a stronger phase of development,” he stated, adding that he is ready to engage stakeholders and serve with humility.
He also pledged loyalty to the APC and respect for party leadership, urging unity and collective commitment toward the progress of the state and the nation.
The declaration positions Oloriẹgbẹ among early contenders in what is expected to be a competitive race for the Kwara State governorship in 2027.
