INEC Boss Warns Officials on Procurement Compliance Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash O. Amupitan, has cautioned officials of the Commission against breaches of procurement laws, stressing that ignorance will no longer be accepted as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan issued the warning at the conclusion of a three-day procurement training held in Lagos, organised in collaboration with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. He described the workshop as both timely and impactful, noting that strict compliance with the Procurement Act is essential to maintaining the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.
According to him, the training has strengthened the collective understanding of procurement procedures among members of the Commission’s Tender Board, thereby enhancing coordination, transparency, and accountability in decision-making.

The training brought together National Commissioners, Directors, and senior officials, with expert sessions focusing on procurement communication, stakeholder management, and legal compliance.
Resource persons at the workshop included Steve Ogidan, Chief Executive Officer of Successory Nigeria Ltd., and Adetunji O. Ogunyemi of Obafemi Awolowo University, who delivered presentations on procurement law infractions and the complexities of legal and judicial interventions.
Amupitan praised the facilitators for their depth of expertise, expressing confidence that the knowledge gained would positively influence participants’ conduct in handling procurement processes.
He further acknowledged the contribution of the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner for ensuring smooth logistics, while commending participants for their active engagement throughout the programme.
The workshop ended with a renewed commitment by INEC officials to uphold procurement regulations and reinforce transparency as a critical component in the conduct of credible elections in 2027.
