Airstrikes, Ground Troops Eliminate 15 ISWAP Fighters, Foil IED Attack in Borno
Nigerian military forces have recorded significant operational successes against insurgents in Borno State, with coordinated air and ground offensives neutralising several fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and foiling a planned bomb attack along a key supply route.
The air component of Operation Hadin Kai carried out a series of precision strikes on terrorist enclaves in Kangarwa, a known ISWAP stronghold, killing no fewer than 15 fighters. The strikes, conducted based on credible intelligence, targeted key insurgent تجمع points and infrastructure within the area.
Sources said battle damage assessments confirmed heavy casualties among the террорист group, with several others sustaining severe injuries. A structure linked to a senior ISWAP commander was also destroyed during the operation.
According to the sources, the residence of a top insurgent figure identified as Malam Nuhu, believed to be the Qaid of Kangarwa, was hit shortly after he vacated the premises.

“Although the target escaped, the building was destroyed and other occupants were eliminated,” the source disclosed, noting that further assessments are ongoing, including reports from related operations in the Dogon Chukun axis.
In a separate but related operation, troops of the 222 Battalion thwarted an attempted improvised explosive device (IED) attack along the Maiduguri–Konduga–Kawuri road, a critical supply route in the state.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on April 2 when troops on ambush duty detected a group of suspected terrorists attempting to plant an explosive device.
The troops responded swiftly, engaging the suspects with a rocket-propelled grenade that triggered an explosion, killing members of the group.
During a follow-up clearance operation, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles from the scene. No additional items of significance were found after an extensive search.
Security sources said the swift response averted what could have been a major attack on the busy route, which remains under heightened military surveillance.
The military high command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining coordinated air and ground offensives to degrade insurgent capabilities, dismantle their leadership structures, and restore lasting peace across the North-East.
