Kanwan Katsina Congratulates FRCN at 75, Urges Investment in Power Solutions
The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, has congratulated the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) on its 75th anniversary, describing the milestone as a reflection of resilience and excellence in public broadcasting.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide and Sarkin Labarun Kanwan Katsina, Jamilu Hashimu Gora, the traditional ruler commended the corporation’s management and staff for their sustained commitment to informing, educating, and entertaining Nigerians over the decades.
The statement noted that the monarch granted an exclusive interview to FRCN, during which he reflected on his early career with the organisation at its Kaduna station.
Alhaji Kankara, who worked with FRCN Kaduna in 1976, recalled serving as a roving correspondent in the newsroom shortly after completing his secondary education before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University.
He said the experience he gained under his then News Manager, Mr. Abdulaziz Oladimeji, laid a strong foundation for his future career, particularly his later role as Public Relations Officer in the Nigeria Customs Service.

The former Customs Comptroller also reminisced on the analogue era of broadcasting, highlighting the challenges of news gathering and transmission at the time, and contrasted it with the efficiency of modern digital broadcasting.
While applauding the establishment of FRCN’s New Media Directorate as a step towards enhancing public access to government information, the traditional ruler raised concerns over persistent power challenges affecting the Kaduna station.
He noted that frequent outages sometimes force the station off air for extended periods, describing the situation as worrisome given the station’s importance to millions of listeners, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
Alhaji Kankara urged the management of FRCN to explore alternative energy solutions, including solar power, to ensure uninterrupted transmission.
He also advised the Director of New Media, Henritta Ibrahim, to prioritise the consistent upload of news and programmes on digital platforms to enable audiences access content beyond traditional radio broadcasts.
The Kanwan Katsina reaffirmed his confidence in the corporation’s ability to evolve with global best practices while sustaining its legacy as a trusted voice in Nigeria’s media landscape.
