2027: Groups Endorse Garba Yusuf for Kano Central Senatorial Seat
Several political groups in Kano have endorsed former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Garba Yusuf Abubakar, to contest for the Kano Central Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The groups, operating under the Garba Yusuf Abubakar Co-ordinating Committee, said their decision was based on his track record in public service, having held commissioner positions in nearly five ministries during the administrations of former Governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
At meetings held across the 15 local government areas that make up the senatorial district on Tuesday, the groups declared their support for Abubakar’s candidature.
Speaking at one of the meetings in Gezawa Local Government, a former Education Secretary of Kano Municipal and former APC ward chairman in Tudun Wuzirci, Abdulkadir Muhammad Kabara, said the endorsement was made on behalf of the Director-General of the National Productivity Center (NPC), Baffa Babba Dan-Agundi.

According to him, the endorsement is backed by the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) structure and its components, including clerics, social media influencers, and grassroots mobilisers.
“This movement has a presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and since Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf joined APC, Ganduje linked him up with Dan-Agundi, and we are with the Governor 100 percent. And for the senatorial seat, we have our candidate, who is Alhaji Garba Yusuf Abubakar, who is part of us and who we will support and work for to take him to success. So, all TSG members are with him,” Kabara said.
He added that the movement is committed to unity within the APC. “All APC members are ours and we don’t fight anybody,” he noted.
Similar meetings were held across all 15 local government areas of the senatorial district, with participants pledging their support for Abubakar.
Garba Yusuf, popularly known as Garba Izala, is a seasoned Kano politician who has served in multiple capacities as a commissioner across key ministries, including Information, Environment, Works and Housing, Finance and Economic Development, and Water Resources. He held these positions during the eight-year administration of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and continued his service in the last two years of Abdullahi Ganduje’s tenure.
