NAF Promotes 38 Officers to Wing Commanders
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Friday decorated 38 senior officers with the rank of Wing Commander, in a move aimed at strengthening its leadership structure and enhancing combat readiness across operational theatres.
The promotion ceremony, held at the NAF Officers’ Mess in Abuja, was described as a recognition of discipline, professionalism, and sustained excellence in service. Speaking at the event, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal SK Aneke, said the elevation reflects the officers’ preparedness to assume higher command responsibilities within an increasingly complex security environment.

Represented by the Chief of Administration at NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal AA Martins, the air chief noted that contemporary security challenges demand officers who are adaptable, decisive, and mission-focused. He expressed confidence that the newly promoted officers would reinforce command effectiveness and sustain the momentum of ongoing air operations nationwide.
According to him, the officers have demonstrated sound judgement, leadership capacity, and commitment to duty—qualities essential for mission success. He further stressed that leadership goes beyond rank, urging the officers to uphold integrity, courage, and the ability to inspire subordinates while advancing national security objectives.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commander, Headquarters NAF Camp Abuja, Air Commodore Imoke, described the promotion as both an achievement and a call to greater responsibility. He charged the officers to carry their new rank with humility, professionalism, and a strong sense of accountability in line with the service’s core values.
The ceremony drew senior military officers, family members, and well-wishers, highlighting the significance of the milestone in reinforcing the Nigerian Air Force’s leadership cadre and operational effectiveness.
