Customs, Police Deepen Security Partnership in Rivers
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ibeto Seaport and Terminals Command in Port Harcourt, has reinforced its commitment to inter-agency cooperation following a strategic visit by the Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port Command, Shuaibu Audu.
The visit, which took place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Command’s headquarters, was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the NCS and the Nigeria Police Force to enhance security and operational efficiency within the port environment.
Speaking during the meeting, the Customs Area Controller, Usman Yahaya, described the visit as both timely and significant, emphasizing that sustained cooperation among security agencies is critical to safeguarding national economic assets.
“This visit reflects the importance of synergy among agencies responsible for securing the nation and protecting critical infrastructure,” Yahaya said, assuring the police of the Command’s readiness to maintain a close working relationship.

He noted that collaboration between Customs and the Police has been instrumental in maintaining order, facilitating legitimate trade, and preventing criminal activities within the port system. According to him, synergy remains central to achieving their shared mandate of securing the maritime domain.
The Comptroller also briefed the visiting Commissioner on the operational relevance of the Ibeto Seaport and Terminals Command, reiterating its strategic role in port security and trade facilitation.
Earlier, Audu said his visit was part of broader efforts to strengthen existing ties between both agencies, stressing that no security institution can operate effectively in isolation.
“Our ports are critical to economic growth and national stability. Strengthened cooperation is necessary to address emerging security threats,” he said, calling for sustained support from Customs personnel in advancing joint security objectives.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration to ensure a secure and efficient port environment.
