Military Kills 21 Terrorists in Zamfara, Borno Operations, Recover Weapons, Logistics
Nigerian troops have recorded significant operational successes against terrorist groups in separate coordinated operations in Zamfara and Borno States, killing about 21 insurgents and recovering weapons, ammunition, motorcycles and logistics supplies.
Security sources said the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, working in close coordination with ground forces, neutralised about 20 terrorists during a follow-up exploitation operation in Zamfara State.
The operation was carried out at about 1:40 p.m. on May 10, 2026, following an earlier aerial interdiction of suspected terrorist hideouts.
According to the sources, combined troops drawn from Forward Operating Bases in Isa and Shinkafi conducted the ground exploitation mission to Tunfa village in Shinkafi Local Government Area.
The troops reportedly advanced through Kamawara in Isa Local Government Area and other adjoining communities, including Kalage, Kalage Jena and Mashema, before reaching the target location.
Battle Damage Assessment indicated that approximately 20 terrorists were neutralised during the operation, while two motorcycles were recovered from the scene.

Military authorities said the operation was part of sustained efforts to maintain pressure on criminal elements and deny them freedom of action across Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
They added that coordinated air and ground operations would continue to consolidate gains and restore lasting security in affected areas.
In a separate development in Borno State, troops of 144 Battalion (Motorised) ambushed suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists at Hyambula general area at about 4:15 a.m. on May 10, 2026.
Security sources said the ambush followed credible intelligence on the movement of logistics supplies intended for terrorist elements.
During the operation, troops made contact with the insurgents, resulting in a brief exchange of fire in which one terrorist was neutralised, while others fled the scene.
Following the engagement, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 35 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm special ammunition.
Other items recovered included a mobile phone, 38 packs of spaghetti, 10 litres of petrol, two cartons of Gramazole, one carton of Peak Milk, and additional food and logistics supplies.
Military authorities said troops had continued exploitation operations in the general area to prevent regrouping of fleeing terrorists and disrupt logistical support networks.
They added that ongoing operations were aimed at strangulating terrorist supply chains and further denying them freedom of action across the theatre.
