Kano Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer, Recover 879 Parcels of Cannabis
Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered 879 parcels of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa during an operation in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
The Command disclosed that the suspect, identified as Umaru, also known as Jalo, of Yan Shado Village in Dawakin Tofa LGA, was arrested on May 13, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. while allegedly offloading 18 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa into his residence.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, operatives attached to the Dawakin Tofa Police Division carried out the operation following credible intelligence.
The statement noted that a search conducted at the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of the 18 sacks, which contained a total of 879 parcels of the suspected illicit substance.

The police said the operation was in line with directives issued by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directing operational commanders across the state to intensify efforts against drug trafficking and identify individuals involved in the illicit trade through intelligence gathering and community feedback.
The Command added that the operation also aligned with the intelligence-led and community-based policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at dismantling criminal networks through public collaboration.
Police authorities said the suspect is currently in custody undergoing investigation, while efforts are ongoing to uncover his suppliers, distribution channels and possible sponsors.
CP Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking and abuse, describing illicit drugs as a major contributor to violent crimes, thuggery and social unrest in the state.
He assured residents that the Command would continue to intensify operations against criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property across Kano State.
The Commissioner also commended members of the public who provided useful information that aided the operation and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence.
According to the statement, the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
