Navy Hands Over Five Suspected IPOB/ESN Members to DSS in Anambra
The Nigerian Navy has handed over five suspects allegedly linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and other criminal elements to the Department of State Services (DSS), Anambra State Command, for further investigation.
The suspects were arrested by personnel of Naval Outpost (NOP) Onitsha, deployed under the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Amiyi, following credible intelligence reports connecting them to suspected criminal activities within Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Preliminary investigations identified one of the suspects as the alleged coordinator of the group’s activities in the affected communities, while the others were reportedly associated with the network. Initial findings also revealed locations allegedly used for meetings and recruitment operations.
In accordance with existing inter-agency collaboration protocols and extant regulations, the suspects were subsequently transferred to the DSS for further investigation and appropriate action.
The Nigerian Navy stated that the operation reflects its continued commitment to supporting internal security operations and ongoing efforts to combat criminality, violent extremism, and other threats to national security within joint operational areas.
The Service further reaffirmed its resolve to sustain collaborative security operations with relevant agencies to ensure peace, stability, and the protection of lives and property across the country.
