The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate linked to a series of violent crimes in Kaduna State and neighbouring communities.

The suspects, identified as Yusuf Rabo and Musa Adamu, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation following investigations into the abduction of an elderly man, Alhaji Rabo Jelani.

Police investigations revealed that Yusuf Rabo allegedly conspired with Musa Adamu and one Ali Haruna, who is currently at large, to kidnap the victim for ransom over claims that he possessed substantial wealth and livestock.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

According to the police, investigations further uncovered that the criminal syndicate procured and deployed multiple AK-47 rifles to carry out kidnapping and armed robbery operations within the area.

The police said Ali Haruna allegedly supplied one of the AK-47 rifles belonging to his father, while other weapons used by the gang were sourced through other members of the syndicate.

“One AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine was recovered during the operation,” the statement said.

Investigators also established that the victim was abducted on separate occasions and taken to forest hideouts where ransom negotiations were allegedly coordinated by Yusuf Rabo.

According to the police, the first abduction yielded a ransom payment of N2 million, while another operation generated N4.5 million for the syndicate.

The police further linked the gang to other violent crimes in the area, including the kidnapping of a trader identified as Mr. Iyke and an armed robbery attack along the Kagoma axis, where commuters were reportedly dispossessed of cash and valuables.

The Force said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, Ali Haruna, and recover additional weapons and exhibits connected to the crimes.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in dismantling kidnapping and armed robbery networks across the country and assures members of the public of sustained intelligence-led operations against violent criminal groups,” the statement added.
