Troops Arrest 10 Suspected Criminals, Disrupt Illegal Mining Operations in Plateau
Troops conducting ongoing security operations in Plateau State have arrested 10 suspected criminals and disrupted illegal mining activities in separate operations across Bassa and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas.
Security sources said troops of Sector 1, Operation Safe Haven, carried out coordinated raids on suspected criminal hideouts in Gurum and Mista-Ali communities of Bassa LGA at about 9:00 p.m. on May 19.
The operation, aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action within the area, led to the arrest of 10 suspects without incident. The suspects are currently undergoing profiling and preliminary investigation.
According to the sources, the raids are part of sustained clearance operations targeting banditry, kidnapping, and other related crimes in Plateau State.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops of Sector 4, Sub-Sector 41 of Operation Enduring Peace, disrupted suspected illegal mining activities in Barkin Ladi LGA.
The troops reportedly responded at about 7:00 p.m. following intelligence reports of illegal mining activities between NTV and Hirpiya villages. On sighting the troops, the suspected miners fled the area.
Security sources said the troops secured the location and recovered items believed to have been used for the illegal mining operations, including a long pipe, a generator, and a pumping machine.
The recovered items have been taken into custody for further investigation and necessary action.
Military authorities said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities, illegal mining, and other security threats contributing to instability and environmental degradation in Plateau State.
They added that intelligence-driven operations and security patrols would continue across vulnerable communities to restore lasting peace and security.
