Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack in Kirawa, Kill 12 Terrorists
Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled an attempted Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on a military location in Kirawa, Borno State, killing at least 12 terrorists and recovering weapons.
The military said the failed assault occurred in the early hours of Thursday along the Kirawa axis near the Nigeria–Cameroon border, where suspected insurgents attempted to infiltrate troops’ positions.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists targeted positions held by troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion and associated forces under ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY and SIEGE OPERATIONS.
He said the attack was swiftly detected and met with heavy resistance from alert troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, who successfully contained the assault.
“The terrorists were forced to abort their mission and withdraw in confusion towards the Cameroon axis, sustaining heavy casualties during the engagement,” the statement said.
