Troops Foil Planned Attack, Kill Two Lakurawa Terrorists in Kebbi
Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have foiled a planned terrorist attack on Sabarumawa community in Kebbi State, killing two suspected Lakurawa terrorists during a coordinated ambush.
The troops also recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and a motorcycle after overpowering the terrorists in a fierce gun battle.
The successful operation was carried out by troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma on June 27.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operation followed credible intelligence that the terrorists were mobilising to attack the Sabarumawa axis.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops swiftly deployed to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route of advance to prevent the planned assault.

Following the encounter, troops exploited the area and recovered several weapons and operational items, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.
The military described the operation as another significant blow to the Lakurawa terrorist network operating in the North-West, noting that it forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal groups threatening communities across the region.
Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements while protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations across the North-West.
