Army, DSS Nab Suspected IPOB/ESN Explosives Expert in Abia
A joint security team comprising troops of the Nigerian Army and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspected explosives specialist allegedly linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during an intelligence-led operation in Abia State.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Saturday, July 12, during a coordinated raid on a hideout in Ummuene Community, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state.

According to the sources, troops of the Headquarters, 14 Brigade, working in collaboration with DSS operatives from the Abia and Enugu State Commands, executed the operation following credible intelligence on the suspect’s activities.
The operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect, who is believed to be an explosives-making expert for the IPOB/ESN network.
During a search of the hideout, security operatives recovered two mobile phones believed to be relevant to ongoing investigations.
The suspect, along with the recovered exhibits, has been handed over to the Department of State Services, Abia State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The arrest is part of sustained intelligence-driven operations by security agencies aimed at dismantling criminal and extremist networks, disrupting the activities of armed groups, and enhancing security across the South-East region.
