Troops Neutralise Suspected ISWAP Spy in Borno, Rescue 3 Hostages in Plateau
Nigerian troops have recorded fresh operational successes in the North-East and North-Central regions, neutralising a suspected ISWAP operative attempting to infiltrate a military position in Borno State and rescuing three kidnapped victims during an offensive operation in Plateau State.
In Borno State, troops of the 222 Battalion (Mechanised) neutralised a suspected ISWAP spy who allegedly attempted to infiltrate a military defensive position in Konduga Local Government Area.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. on July 11 when surveillance cameras detected a suspicious individual approaching the military location from the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest.
The suspect was believed to be conducting reconnaissance on behalf of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) to gather intelligence on the troops’ defensive position.
Following the detection, troops deployed in an ambush position were immediately alerted and engaged the suspect as he attempted to infiltrate the location, leading to his neutralisation.

Military sources said the operation underscored the effectiveness of surveillance technology and coordinated ground responses in detecting and eliminating potential terrorist threats before they could compromise military positions.
In a separate operation, troops of Sector 2, Operation Enduring Peace, rescued three kidnapped victims after engaging suspected terrorists in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, conducted at about 6:30 p.m. on July 11, followed credible intelligence on the movement of armed terrorists escorting kidnapped victims along the Aduwa Road.
Troops swiftly intercepted the suspects and engaged them in a gun battle, forcing the terrorists to flee into the surrounding bush under intense military fire while abandoning their captives.
The three victims were rescued unharmed and later debriefed by security personnel.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had earlier been abducted from Kufayi Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State before being moved through the Wase axis.
The rescued victims have since been handed over to the appropriate authorities and reunited with their families.
Security sources said troops are continuing operations to track down the fleeing terrorists and dismantle kidnapping networks operating along the Plateau-Taraba border corridor as part of sustained efforts to enhance security in the region.
