Tinubu Approves Army Battalion for Kwara to Bolster Fight Against Banditry, Kidnapping
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Kwara State as part of efforts to strengthen security and intensify the fight against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola.
According to the governor, the new military formation will be sited in Omu Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, and is expected to significantly enhance security operations and improve rapid response to emerging security threats across the state.
AbdulRazaq expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the request, describing the decision as another demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

“On behalf of the government and people of Kwara State, I sincerely thank Mr President for yet another promise fulfilled to our state. We are confident that the new battalion will significantly strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various parts of the state,” the governor said.
He also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the prompt processing of the state’s request for increased military presence, noting that the intervention would reinforce ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity.
The governor further acknowledged the contributions of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their sustained collaboration in combating terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities.
AbdulRazaq also praised the ongoing multi-agency security operations across Kwara State, particularly efforts aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts, rescuing kidnapped victims and flushing out bandits from forest reserves.
He expressed optimism that the establishment of the battalion would further consolidate the state’s security architecture and enhance the protection of residents and critical infrastructure.
