Army Raids Criminal Hideout, Recover Arms, Ammunition in Rivers
Troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a precision intelligence-led operation targeting a suspected criminal hideout in Rivers State.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of July 23, 2026, forms part of the military’s sustained offensive against criminal elements operating across the South-East.
According to the Nigerian Army, the troops raided a forest enclave at Awara Community Waterside in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area and along the Omoku–Ogbaku–Ndoni axis following credible intelligence that the location was being used as a staging base for planning kidnappings and attacks on security personnel and civilians.
During the operation, troops recovered one Lee-Enfield MK I rifle, one G3 rifle, 116 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The Army said clearance operations are continuing in the area to flush out remaining criminal elements and dismantle their operational bases.

It noted that the latest recovery marks the fourth successful seizure of illegal arms and ammunition by troops within the last two weeks, underscoring the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and enhanced collaboration between the Nigerian Army, other security agencies and members of the public.
The military added that the sustained operations have continued to degrade the operational capabilities of criminal groups, restricting their ability to threaten lives and property across the region.
Reaffirming its commitment to restoring lasting peace and security in the South-East, the Nigerian Army said it would continue to sustain aggressive, intelligence-led operations in collaboration with other security agencies until all criminal elements are denied safe havens and brought to justice.
The Army also urged members of the public to continue supporting ongoing operations by providing timely and credible intelligence, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to achieving enduring peace, security and stability across the South-East and the country.
