Senator Shehu Buba Petitions IGP, Accuses Bauchi APC Governorship Candidate of Cyberstalking, Defamation and Incitement
The Senator representing Bauchi South, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over allegations of cyberstalking, criminal defamation, incitement and disturbance of public peace against the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flagbearer in Bauchi State, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN.
The petition, dated 22 July 2026 and signed by Jay‑Adl Attorneys, alleges that Abubakar made “seriously defamatory, injurious and inflammatory” statements against the senator during a recent political gathering. According to the petition, the remarks—captured in a viral Facebook video—questioned Senator Buba’s source of wealth and suggested it may be “blood money,” while portraying the APC candidate’s own wealth as clean and earned “from sweat.”
The lawyers said the statements, now widely circulated across social media, were intended to tarnish the senator’s reputation, lower his public standing and damage his political prospects as the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi election.

They noted that Abubakar, a former governor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, had been an ally of Senator Buba in the past, raising questions about the timing of the allegations now that the senator’s popularity “is becoming more glaring” ahead of the 2027 polls.
The petition argues that the comments constitute offences under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, as well as defamation and injurious falsehood under the Penal Code applicable in Bauchi and the FCT. The lawyers warned that the statements were capable of inciting public disaffection and disturbing the peace among political supporters.
They urged the IGP to: invite Abubakar for questioning, conduct a full investigation, including retrieval and preservation of the viral video and initiate prosecution before a competent court
The petition includes a burnt CD and screenshots of the publication as evidence.
Jay‑Adl Attorneys further warned that failure to act within seven days would compel them to seek judicial intervention, invoking the legal maxim Fiat Justitia ruat Caelum “Let justice be done though the heavens fall.”
The petition was signed by Jibrin S. Jibrin, Notary Public, along with other members of Jay-ADL Attorneys on behalf of Senator Buba.
The police are yet to issue an official response to the petition.
