PHOTO: Kwara Govt Announces Release of 176 Abducted Woro Residents
The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of 176 residents abducted during the February 3, 2026 attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, bringing an end to months of uncertainty for the victims and their families.
The government announced the development in a statement published on its official Facebook page on Wednesday, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security agencies and all those who contributed to securing the victims’ freedom.
“Alhamdulillah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!” the statement read.

The victims, comprising mostly women and children, were kidnapped when armed assailants attacked Woro community in February, an incident that sparked widespread concern across Kwara State and beyond.
Their prolonged captivity had drawn repeated appeals from residents, community leaders and other stakeholders, who called for intensified efforts to secure their release.
While the state government confirmed that all 176 victims have regained their freedom, it did not disclose details of the operation that led to their release or indicate whether any ransom was paid.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement providing further information on the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release.
The successful release of the abductees marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to address one of the state’s most high-profile mass abduction cases this year.
