Sustained Military Pressure Forces Additional 17 JAS Family Members to Surrender in Borno
Sustained offensive operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have led to the surrender of 17 family members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorist group in separate incidents in Borno State.
The development, according to the military, underscores the increasing pressure being exerted on terrorist elements operating across the North-East theatre.
In the first incident, 16 JAS family members comprising 10 women and six children surrendered to troops of 222 Battalion at about 9:15 a.m. on August 4, 2026.
The group surrendered during a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga Local Government Area of the state.

During preliminary debriefing, the individuals reportedly disclosed that sustained military pressure on terrorist enclaves influenced their decision to leave the group and surrender to the troops.
A total of ₦92,000 was recovered from the group during the process.
In a separate incident at about 12:04 p.m. the same day, an 11-year-old JAS family member also surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion under Sector 1 in Bama Local Government Area.
The minor similarly attributed his decision to surrender to the sustained operational pressure being maintained by troops against terrorist elements in the theatre.
The latest development adds to ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to weaken terrorist networks in the North-East through sustained offensive operations, intelligence-driven activities and measures encouraging members and associates of terrorist groups to abandon the insurgency and surrender.
