Baze University Establishes Chancellor’s Annual Excellence Awards to Honour Outstanding Scholarship
Board Approves Prestigious Institutional Prizes to Reward Research Excellence, Mentorship and Academic Achievement
In a major step towards reinforcing its culture of excellence and rewarding exceptional academic performance, the Board of Trustees of Baze University has approved the establishment of the Chancellor’s Annual Excellence Awards, a prestigious institutional honours programme designed to recognise and celebrate outstanding contributions to teaching, research, scholarship and postgraduate supervision.
The decision was approved at a meeting of the University’s Board of Trustees chaired by the Founder and Chancellor, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, PhD, FSAN, as part of the University’s continuing commitment to stimulating excellence, strengthening its research ecosystem and building an ideal university that competes with the very best in the world.
The newly established awards will initially comprise two flagship honours: the Chancellor’s Prize for the Best PhD Supervisor of the Year and the Chancellor’s Prize for the Best Published Academic Staff Member of the Year. The awards will be presented annually during the University’s Convocation Ceremony or on any other occasion approved by the Chancellor.
University prizes have long been recognised internationally as powerful instruments for nurturing a culture of excellence. Across leading universities, distinguished academic awards serve not merely as honours but as strategic incentives that inspire innovation, encourage healthy competition, reward sustained productivity and reinforce the highest standards of scholarship. They also strengthen institutional reputation by demonstrating that excellence is identified, celebrated and rewarded.
The Chancellor’s Annual Excellence Awards are therefore expected to become one of Baze University’s most distinguished academic traditions, recognising scholars whose work exemplifies originality, intellectual rigour, professional integrity and measurable impact on knowledge creation.
The Chancellor’s Prize for the Best PhD Supervisor of the Year will celebrate academic staff who demonstrate exceptional commitment to postgraduate mentorship, timely supervision, scholarly guidance and the successful development of doctoral researchers. The award recognises that the quality of doctoral supervision is central to the production of future scholars, researchers and innovators, and remains one of the defining indicators of a world-class university.
