IGP Disu Orders Stronger Security Response After Kebbi Attack
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered strengthened security measures and intensified operations following the terrorist attack that killed 10 police officers and other civilians along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The directive followed the deadly attack on security personnel, which prompted the Nigeria Police Force to deploy additional operational and intelligence resources to prevent further attacks and protect vulnerable communities in the affected areas.
As part of the response, Disu on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, deployed a delegation led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, to Kebbi State.
The delegation met with the state Governor, Nasir Idris, and other relevant stakeholders to assess the security situation and strengthen ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace in affected communities.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the delegation conveyed the IGP’s concern over the deaths of the police officers and civilians and reaffirmed the Force’s determination to ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain.
Disu also directed that all available operational and intelligence resources be deployed to identify, track and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The IGP further reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the welfare of families of the slain officers.
The police said the bereaved families would continue to receive necessary support in accordance with established welfare policies, while the service and sacrifice of the fallen personnel would be duly honoured.
The Kebbi State Governor commended the police officers for their courage and sacrifice and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the police and other security agencies in confronting terrorist and criminal elements operating in the state.
Idris also pledged sustained collaboration with security agencies, particularly in intelligence sharing and operational efforts aimed at preventing criminal groups from establishing or maintaining safe havens in the state.
The police leadership expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Government for its continued support and partnership, while reiterating its resolve to intensify intelligence-led and coordinated operations against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
The Force said it would continue working with the state government, sister security agencies and local communities to strengthen security in Kebbi and other parts of the country.
It also assured the public that every effort would be made to bring those responsible for the attack to justice, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The Nigeria Police Force honours the memory of the fallen officers and stands firmly with their families,” the statement said.
