Tinubu Appoints Abel Enitan as New Head of Civil Service of the Federation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).
Enitan’s appointment takes effect from August 27, 2026, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
He succeeds Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months.
During his career, he has served at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President. He is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Presidency said Enitan brings extensive institutional experience and a strong understanding of the operations of the Federal Civil Service to his new role.

The President expressed the nation’s appreciation for her years of dedicated public service and wished her a fulfilling life after retirement.
Tinubu charged Enitan to consolidate ongoing reforms and innovations in the Civil Service while deepening professionalism, efficiency and accountability across the system.
He also tasked the incoming Head of Service with building a more responsive and effective Civil Service capable of supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President further urged Enitan to promote a Civil Service that is professional, merit-driven, accountable, innovative and responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
Enitan’s Profile
Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He received his secondary education at Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.
He subsequently attended the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
In 2015, he earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia.
His appointment makes him the next senior-most administrative head of Nigeria’s Federal Civil Service, with a mandate to sustain ongoing reforms and improve service delivery across government institutions.
