Military Frees 14 Kidnapped Victims in Katsina Forest
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 14 kidnapped victims during an operation in Madaci Forest, Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The rescue followed a swift response by troops of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists escorting kidnapped victims in the area on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
According to a statement by the Joint Task Force’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the troops mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into the surrounding bushes.
A subsequent search of the area led to the successful rescue of 14 victims, comprising six males and eight females.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the victims had been abducted from different locations within the Dandume, Bakori and Funtua areas of Katsina State.
The rescued victims were subsequently handed over to the appropriate local authorities for necessary action and reunification with their families.
The Joint Task Force said the operation underscored the troops’ determination to protect civilians and deny terrorists the freedom to carry out criminal activities across the North-West.
The Theatre Command further assured residents that troops would sustain pressure on terrorist elements and intensify operations to safeguard communities across the Joint Operations Area.
It also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism and internal security operations.
