Dotun Oladipo: Family Announces Funeral Arrangements for Late Veteran Journalist
The family of the late publisher of The Eagle Online and former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Dotun Oladipo, has announced September 10 and 11, 2026, for his funeral rites.
Oladipo, a veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, died on Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 56.
According to the funeral arrangements released by the family, a service of songs will be held at Daystar Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, September 10.
The burial service is scheduled for the same venue on Friday, September 11, after which the late publisher will be laid to rest.
Oladipo served as President of GOCOP from 2017 to 2021 and was among the association’s founding members who contributed to shaping the organisation during its formative years.
Reacting to his death, GOCOP President, Danlami Nmodu, described the development as a painful loss to the guild and the wider online publishing industry.

Nmodu said Oladipo played a significant role in strengthening GOCOP at a time when the association was working to establish online publishers as a recognised and influential component of Nigeria’s media landscape.
“Dotun played an important role in the development of GOCOP. He led the Guild for four years at a time when there was still a lot of work to be done to establish online publishers as an important part of the media. His contribution will always be remembered,” Nmodu said.
He noted that Oladipo brought considerable experience from both journalism and publishing to his leadership of the guild.
“Dotun understood journalism and he understood the business of publishing. He was passionate about the place of online media in Nigeria and he gave his time to the growth of the Guild. We are saddened by his passing,” he added.
Oladipo was also a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the International Press Institute, Nigeria, and remained actively involved in the growth and professional development of Nigeria’s online publishing sector.
His death has been widely regarded as a significant loss to the Nigerian media community, particularly the emerging online publishing industry to which he devoted considerable professional energy.
