Customs CG Charges 50 Graduates to Uphold Integrity, National Interest
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has charged 50 newly trained Customs officers to uphold integrity, sound judgment and the national interest as they assume greater responsibilities across the Service.
Adeniyi gave the charge on Friday, August 28, 2026, while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the graduation ceremony of Junior Course 25 at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The three-month course was designed to strengthen the officers’ professional competence, leadership capacity and operational readiness for the increasingly complex demands of modern Customs administration.
The Customs CG urged the graduates to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the course with professionalism, accountability and courage, stressing that effective leadership extends beyond the authority conferred by rank.
«“Leadership is not defined solely by the rank that you wear, but is demonstrated through competence, fairness, courage and the responsibility you take,” Adeniyi told the graduates.»

He noted that contemporary Customs administration requires officers to combine operational effectiveness with ethical leadership, strategic thinking and a firm commitment to national interest, rather than focusing solely on revenue generation.
The Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, commended the graduating officers for their dedication throughout the training.
Gaura also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the institution’s capacity through the deployment of digital learning tools and strategic training partnerships, including collaboration with the Nigerian Army.
Certificates were presented to all 50 graduates, while the three best-performing officers received special awards from the Comptroller-General in recognition of their outstanding performance.
The graduation activities began earlier in the week with a regimental dinner on Wednesday, August 26.
Speaking at the dinner on behalf of the CGC, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs Suleiman Chiroma challenged the officers to demonstrate vigilance, professionalism and decisive leadership as they return to their respective commands.
He urged the graduates to translate the knowledge acquired at the College into effective performance and responsible leadership in their post-training assignments.
The graduation marks another step in the NCS’s efforts to strengthen its human-resource capacity and develop a professional corps capable of responding effectively to evolving customs, border-security and trade-facilitation challenges.
