Troops Foil Terrorist Ambush, Neutralise 3, Recover Rifle in Borno
Troops of the 151 Task Force Battalion have neutralised three suspected terrorists following an ambush on the Maiduguri-Miyanti-Banki Junction route in Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on September 1, when the troops, who were conducting route-scanning operations along the major highway, came under attack by terrorist elements.
According to security sources, the attackers initially detonated a concealed improvised explosive device (IED) before opening fire on the troops.
The soldiers fought through the ambush and immediately launched an exploitation operation to pursue and engage the attackers.
Three terrorists were reportedly neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, 14 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one concealed IED.

One soldier sustained injuries during the engagement and was evacuated to the 21 Specialised Brigade Hospital, Maiduguri, where he is said to be in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.
The attack also damaged the windscreen of one of the military gun trucks.
The incident highlights the continued threat posed by terrorist elements operating along major transportation corridors in Borno State, particularly their use of IEDs and ambush tactics against military patrols.
The military said the security situation across the theatre remained generally calm but unpredictable, while troops maintained satisfactory morale and combat effectiveness.
It added that troops continued to conduct offensive operations and route-clearance activities aimed at disrupting terrorist networks, preventing attacks and safeguarding civilians and motorists across the theatre.
