Army Foils Kidnappers’ Escape, Rescues Retired General’s Wife in Abuja
The Nigerian Army has rescued the wife of a retired general who was abducted from her residence in the Federal Capital Territory, arresting two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate and recovering an AK-47 rifle.
Mrs Adonkie, wife of Brigadier General Basil Adonkie (Rtd), was abducted from her residence on September 1, 2026, prompting troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison to launch a coordinated pursuit operation.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis and made contact with the kidnappers.
The Army said the kidnappers, overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower, abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes.
Mrs Adonkie was subsequently rescued at Angwan Sabo Village, while troops intensified their pursuit along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis.

Additional forces were deployed to block likely escape routes and prevent the fleeing criminals from evading capture.
In a follow-up operation on September 2, troops intercepted two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
The troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition during the operation.
The Army said clearance and tracking operations have continued across the general area to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
It commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation, assuring the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property.
The Army added that, in collaboration with other security agencies, it would sustain intelligence-driven joint operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security across the FCT and neighbouring areas.
