REVEALED: How Army Rescues Retired General’s Wife, Nabbed 2 Kidnappers in Abuja
Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier-General Basil Adonkie, after she was abducted from her residence in the Federal Capital Territory.
The rescue followed a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving troops from the Army Headquarters Garrison (AHQ GAR) and other Army formations, which was launched shortly after the woman was kidnapped at about 10:30 p.m. on September 1, 2026.
According to military sources, the troops immediately mobilised and pursued the kidnappers along multiple routes in an effort to prevent them from escaping with the victim.
Troops of the AHQ GAR advanced through the ACO Estate-Goza Community axis, where they made contact with the abductors.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of Mrs Adonkie around Angwan-Sabo Village, while another team continued to pursue the fleeing kidnappers through the ACO Estate-Angwan Sayawa axis.

The pursuit continued into the early hours of September 2, prompting the deployment of troops from the 176 Guards Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion to strategic locations to block and intercept the fleeing suspects.
At about 11:09 a.m. on September 2, the troops encountered the fleeing suspects along the Gaube Village axis in Kuje Area Council.
During the encounter, the soldiers arrested two suspected members of the kidnap syndicate.
The troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle and an AK-47 magazine containing 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Following the operation, the rescued woman was reunited with her family.
The two suspects remain in military custody for profiling and further investigation, with security agencies expected to use information obtained from them to identify and track other members of the syndicate still at large.
The Army has subsequently intensified operations across the affected areas as part of efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and prevent further kidnapping incidents.
The successful operation underscores the importance of rapid mobilisation, intelligence-led operations and coordinated pursuit in responding to kidnapping incidents within the FCT.
