Why Police Extended Osun Deployment After Election — Force HQ
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed reports alleging that hundreds of police personnel deployed to Osun State for the August 15, 2026 governorship election have remained in the state for weeks under harsh conditions without adequate food and basic welfare provisions.
The Force, in a statement issued on Friday by its Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, described the continued deployment as a standard post-election operational practice, rather than evidence of neglect of personnel welfare.
According to the police, maintaining personnel in the state after the election is part of established security procedures designed to sustain stability, prevent possible post-election violence, respond to emerging threats and facilitate a smooth return to normal policing.
The Force explained that the duration of such deployments is determined by prevailing operational and security requirements.
It also rejected claims that officers deployed for the election had been abandoned or denied adequate welfare.

“All officers deployed for the election have received their approved entitlements, and command structures remain responsible for their welfare throughout the assignment,” the statement said.
The police cautioned against portraying a planned post-election security deployment as institutional neglect, warning that such reports could misrepresent operational realities, affect personnel morale and undermine public confidence in the Force.
The NPF reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its personnel, stressing that officers would continue to be strategically deployed to areas where their presence is required to protect lives and property and maintain public peace.
The Force also urged media organisations and other reporting platforms to verify information before publication, particularly claims attributed to unnamed sources.
It warned that unverified reports could mislead the public and potentially undermine ongoing security operations.
