2027: Former Gombe Electoral Commissioner Endorses Pantami for Governor
A former Commissioner of the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC), Hon. Muhammad Ismail City, has endorsed former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, for the governorship of Gombe State.
City, who also served as Executive Chairman of Akko Local Government Council, announced the endorsement during a meeting with Pantami in his office.
The former council chairman, popularly known by his traditional title, Katukan Akko, said his experience in electoral administration and grassroots governance had given him an understanding of the leadership qualities required to advance the development of Gombe State.
He described the state as being at a critical stage that required a leader with integrity, administrative competence, international exposure and a record of public service.
According to him, Pantami’s tenures as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and subsequently as Minister of Communications and Digital Economy demonstrated his capacity to pursue institutional reforms, innovation and development initiatives.
“Professor Isa Ali Pantami embodies these ideals. His exemplary tenure as the Director-General/CEO of NITDA and subsequently as the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy of Nigeria demonstrated his unparalleled capacity to deploy innovation, structural reforms and strategic vision for public good,” City said.

City said he believed a Pantami administration could focus on modernising agriculture, strengthening education and expanding sustainable economic opportunities across urban and rural communities.
“Having closely monitored the political landscape and the yearnings of our people, I am entirely convinced that Professor Pantami possesses the unique administrative competence and global network needed to elevate Gombe State to unprecedented heights,” he said.
The former GOSIEC commissioner consequently called on his political associates, stakeholders in Akko Local Government Area and residents across Gombe State to support Pantami’s governorship aspiration.
“I unequivocally endorse the gubernatorial candidacy of Professor Isa Ali Pantami. I call upon all my political associates, the stakeholders of Akko Local Government and the patriotic citizens of Gombe State to join hands and support this noble cause,” he said.
City expressed confidence that Pantami’s leadership would contribute to building what he described as a more secure, prosperous and united Gombe State.
Pantami, who holds the traditional title of Majidadin Daular Usmaniyya and is a Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), served as NITDA Director-General from 2016 to 2019 before his appointment as minister.
A statement announcing the endorsement was signed by Professor Suleiman Mohammed Gombe on behalf of the Pantamiyya Movement.
