Troops Raid Terrorist Enclaves in Kebbi, Kill 2 in Niger, Recover Firearms
Troops conducting separate offensive operations in Kebbi and Niger states have disrupted terrorist activities, neutralised two terrorists and recovered an assortment of weapons, ammunition, motorcycles and other items.
In Kebbi State, troops of Sector 2 carried out an offensive operation against suspected terrorist enclaves around Gumki in Arewa Dandi Local Government Area, forcing the terrorists to withdraw towards the fringes of the Nigeria-Niger border.
The operation was conducted at about 3 a.m. on September 14, 2026, when troops of 1 Battalion moved against suspected terrorist positions in the Gumki general area.
Security sources said the troops made contact with the terrorists, resulting in a firefight. The terrorists subsequently withdrew from the area in the face of the troops’ offensive, allowing the soldiers to exploit the abandoned positions.
The troops recovered one AK-47 rifle with an additional magazine, one PKT machine-gun magazine, 187 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 PKT ammunition and 14 rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm special ammunition.

Other items recovered included four motorcycles, two mobile phones, combat kits, assorted charms and ₦87,000 in cash.
Meanwhile, in Niger State, troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD neutralised two terrorists during a fighting patrol in Borgu Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at about 8:55 a.m. on September 14, when troops of Civilian Intervention Battalion XVI, conducting a fighting patrol from Dekara towards the Gidan Zana and Sabon Gida general areas, encountered the terrorists.
The troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight and successfully neutralised two of them.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one HK 21 machine gun and 15 belted rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
The operations are part of sustained efforts by security forces to dismantle terrorist enclaves, disrupt their activities and deny armed groups freedom of movement across vulnerable communities and key routes.
Troops are continuing offensive and clearance operations in both areas while maintaining surveillance along the Nigeria-Niger border axis and other vulnerable locations to prevent terrorist elements from regrouping or returning to previously cleared positions.
