Nigeria Army, Indonesia Deepen Military Cooperation on Training, Technology
The Nigerian Army and the Indonesian military have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, with emphasis on professional military training, operational effectiveness and institutional capacity.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, stated this on Thursday when he received the Defence Attaché of the Embassy of Indonesia to Nigeria, Col Aslam Setiawan, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Shaibu described the longstanding defence relationship between Nigeria and Indonesia as mutually beneficial, particularly in the areas of professional military education, exchange of operational experience and participation in multinational exercises.
He said sustained military-to-military engagement was essential to developing a professional, adaptable and combat-ready force capable of responding effectively to emerging security threats.
The COAS called for expanded cooperation in counterinsurgency, emerging technologies and other areas of mutual military interest.

According to him, increased exchange of expertise and technology between the two countries could strengthen situational awareness, operational planning and battlefield effectiveness.
Shaibu also highlighted the Nigerian Army’s ongoing expansion from eight to 12 divisions, noting that the development would require corresponding investments in infrastructure, training, technology and institutional support.
He said such investments were necessary to enhance the Army’s capacity to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
Earlier, Setiawan reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to deepening bilateral defence relations with Nigeria.
The Indonesian Defence Attaché said professional exchanges and multinational military exercises, including Exercise Super Garuda Shield, provided valuable platforms for strengthening interoperability, sharing operational experiences and enhancing the capacity of both armies to respond to contemporary security challenges.
The engagement is expected to further consolidate military-to-military relations between Nigeria and Indonesia while creating additional opportunities for cooperation in training, technology and operational development.
