Troops Foil Kidnapping Attempt in Katsina, Zamfara, Rescue Six Victims, Recover 117 Cattle
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a kidnapping attempt in Katsina State, rescued three abducted persons and recovered an abandoned vehicle in a series of operations that also led to the rescue of three injured civilians and the recovery of suspected rustled livestock in Zamfara State.
The operations, conducted as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the two states, also resulted in the recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry and the disruption of criminal activities along major transportation routes.
In Katsina State, troops responded to a distress call from local residents reporting an ongoing abduction along the Dandume–Damari Road in Dandume Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the spokesperson for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major Olaniyi Joseph, the troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the armed bandits with superior firepower.
Overwhelmed by the troops’ response, the criminals fled into the surrounding bushes, abandoning their captives and a black Golf vehicle.
The troops pursued the fleeing suspects, cleared the immediate area and rescued the three male victims unharmed.
Following preliminary security checks and necessary assistance, the rescued individuals were allowed to continue their journey safely.
No casualties were recorded among the troops during the encounter.
The military formation said its personnel had continued to maintain active presence through day and night patrols across critical axes, including Dandume, Malumfashi and Dutsin-Ma, as well as surrounding educational and public institutions, to deny criminal elements freedom of action.

In Zamfara State, troops responding to a distress call concerning an attack by armed bandits on travellers along the Dampo–Rumba Road in Bakura Local Government Area engaged the assailants, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bushes.
The bandits abandoned three injured civilians, who were immediately rescued by the troops.
The soldiers administered first aid to the victims before evacuating them for medical attention. The affected road was subsequently secured, while aggressive patrols continued along the axis to ensure the safety of commuters.
In another operation based on credible intelligence, troops deployed around the Magami axis intercepted five trucks conveying a large consignment of suspected rustled livestock reportedly heading towards Gusau.
A thorough search of the trucks led to the recovery of 117 cows, two donkeys, one goat and five cow skins.
The recovered livestock and items were formally handed over to the Chairman of the Zamfara State Committee on the Recovery of Rustled Animals in Gusau for identification and eventual return to their rightful owners.
Similarly, troops operating in Tsafe Local Government Area intercepted a stolen Toyota Camry with registration number RBC 804CL following intelligence sharing among joint tracking teams.
The driver reportedly ignored signals to stop and fled towards a nearby community. Troops pursued the vehicle, forcing the suspects to abandon the car and escape on foot.
The recovered vehicle was secured for further administrative and legal proceedings.
Major Joseph said the operations reflected the troops’ continued commitment to disrupting criminal networks, protecting civilians and restoring safe passage along major roads across the North-West.
